Stephen Curry led the charge with 25 points, while Brandin Podziemski contributed 22 as the Golden State Warriors dominated the Phoenix Suns with a decisive 133-95 win on Tuesday night.
The victory keeps the Warriors in the hunt for a top-six seed in the
Western Conference playoff race and avoids the play-in tournament.
Golden State now holds a 47-32 record, tied with the
Denver Nuggets and Memphis Grizzlies for the fourth through sixth seeds.
Right behind them are the Los Angeles Clippers at 46-32, setting up a tight finish to the regular season.
First Half Surge Puts Warriors in Control
The Warriors vs Suns matchup was all but over by halftime, with Golden State holding a commanding 69-43 lead. Curry dropped 19 points in the first half, while rookie standout Podziemski added 17.
Golden State extended the lead to as many as 41 points in the second half,
cruising comfortably to their 47th win of the season.
The Suns, now on a seven-game losing streak, are barely hanging on to their postseason hopes. Their only path to the
Western Conference play-in is by winning all three remaining games and hoping the Dallas Mavericks lose their final three.
Devin Booker led Phoenix with 21 points, followed by Grayson Allen and Ryan Dunn who each added 12. Unfortunately, the Suns looked out of rhythm throughout, shooting just 39.8% from the field and a dismal 27.9% from beyond the arc.
- Warriors: Golden State took care of business on the road and will now face two more winnable games against the Spurs and Trail Blazers. The season finale against the Clippers could be critical for playoff seeding.
- Suns: Phoenix looked like a team ready for the offseason. Other than Booker’s strong first half, there was little energy or urgency from the Suns roster.
Moses Moody nailed a 3-pointer with 8:54 remaining in the first quarter to give the Warriors a 10-8 lead, a lead they never relinquished.
The Suns finished shooting 35-of-88 (39.8%) from the field and just 12-of-43 (27.9%) from three-point range.
- Warriors: Host the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday.
- Suns: Host the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday.
