Eric Bowman, a Charleston entrepreneur, turned himself in on April 8 after facing harassment and stalking charges.
Authorities confirmed that Bowman, 45, was booked into Charleston County jail just after 6:15 a.m.
Bowman allegedly placed a tracking device on his estranged wife’s car, according to Sullivan’s Island police.
The device was discovered during a New York trip in July 2024, leading to the current investigation.
The incident report redacts the victim’s name, but court records confirm it involves his wife, Melissa Britton.
In court, Britton identified herself as the victim and gave a prepared statement during the bond hearing.
Her voice trembling, she told the judge she feared for her safety and that of her family and community.
Britton emotionally described Bowman as “a clear ongoing danger” to those around her.
One of the most emotional moments came when Britton recalled a confrontation with Bowman after a police visit.
She said Bowman told her, “It takes six seconds for the police to respond to this address. I can do whatever I want to you in six seconds.”
Britton held a balled-up tissue as she shared the disturbing memory with the court.
Bowman, wearing a navy sweater, appeared virtually from the Al Cannon Detention Center before Magistrate James Gosnell.
While Britton testified, Bowman remained emotionless and did not respond visibly to her statements.
Earlier in 2025, U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace publicly labeled Bowman a sexual predator during a floor speech.
This new charge adds another layer to the public scrutiny already surrounding his name.
On April 7, Bowman posted on X (formerly Twitter), claiming Britton was “weaponizing the judicial system” against him.
He also stated that he had not communicated with Britton since November 2023, denying direct interaction.
The local community continues to react strongly as details of the bond hearing spread through media coverage.
Many have voiced concerns about stalking, domestic violence, and the safety of victims in similar situations.
Bowman’s case now moves forward under the legal system, with more hearings expected in the coming weeks.
Authorities have not disclosed further evidence or additional charges related to the alleged stalking behavior.
