World Football Summit Heads to Hong Kong
Hong Kong is set to host the World Football Summit (WFS) for the first time from September 2 to 4, 2025.
The event will take place at AsiaWorld-Expo, located in Chek Lap Kok, a major venue for international conventions.
This summit is a significant move for Hong Kong as it aims to become a regional hub for global sports events.
Football Icons to Attend the Inaugural Event
Global football stars like Ronaldo Nazario, Andres Iniesta, and Arsene Wenger are confirmed as headline speakers.
Other football legends include Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, Francesco Totti, and Fabio Capello.
Women’s football will also be represented by icons like Marta Vieira da Silva and Mia Hamm.
Global Tech Leaders Join the Summit
The WFS will also unite leaders from the tech industry to discuss the future of football innovation.
OpenAI’s Sam Altman, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek, and Google’s Kate Johnson are among expected attendees.
Netflix’s head of sports, Gabe Spitzer, will also take part, marking a powerful tech presence at the summit.
Activities and Format of the Event
On September 2, attendees will join an evening city tour and welcome dinner to experience Hong Kong’s culture.
The formal summit will begin on September 3, continuing through September 4, with keynote talks and exhibitions.
Over 100 booths and 60 speakers are expected, attracting more than 10,000 visitors from across the globe.
Multi-Year Commitment to the Event
A source confirmed that Hong Kong will host the WFS for three consecutive years: 2025, 2026, and 2027.
This long-term partnership positions the city as a key player in the football and sports-tech landscape in Asia.
Several regional partners have been invited, and confirmations are currently in progress.
Boosting Hong Kong’s Sports Tourism and Economy
The WFS aligns with Hong Kong’s broader strategy to promote major events and attract international visitors.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s pop-up museum will open at K11 Musea in July, further enhancing the football atmosphere.
Manchester United will also face a local team in Hong Kong on May 30 at the city’s main stadium.
More Football Excitement Coming to Hong Kong
The Hong Kong Football Festival in July will welcome elite clubs like Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham, and AC Milan.
These events contribute to Hong Kong’s push to host prestigious international sports and entertainment events.
Rosanna Law, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, emphasized the city’s proactive approach to mega-events.
