Tom’s Family Bonds Through Running and Culture

Tom from Ireland joined the half marathon with his Japanese wife and 17-year-old child, calling sports a meaningful family activity.

They visited Hue days before the race, exploring regional dishes and using the free entry to historical landmarks offered to runners.

Irfan Isthira from Australia joined on a friend’s recommendation and left with a new personal best of 1 hour 39 minutes.

He appreciated the free finisher’s shirt and photos, which typically cost around $30 at Australian events.

“The weather here was great,” said Irfan. “It made running enjoyable, unlike the heat in Ho Chi Minh City.”

Awahara Hiroyuki, 70, and Kojima Nami from Ho Chi Minh City joined to race and enjoy local cuisine together.

Awahara finished the half marathon in 2 hours 14 minutes and praised both the beef noodle soup and tapioca dumplings.

Their participation was part of a trip organized by their running club, blending relaxation and competition.
