Tony Gilroy Says a ‘Star Wars’ Horror Project Is Coming
A New Genre for Star Wars
Andor creator Tony Gilroy has confirmed that a horror project set in the Star Wars universe is currently in development.
During an interview with SFX Magazine in March, Gilroy joked about genre shifts, mentioning sitcoms and horror as possibilities.
He later clarified that a Star Wars horror is not just an idea—but is actually in the works.
Confirmation from the Red Carpet
Speaking to Business Insider at the Andor Season 2 red carpet in London, Gilroy said, “I think they’re doing that. I think it’s in the works, yeah.”
He did not provide further details, including whether the project is a movie or a series.
Disney and Lucasfilm have yet to release an official statement about the rumored horror project.
Context Around Tony Gilroy ‘s Comments
Gilroy noted that his previous comments were meant as jokes but hinted that genre experimentation is already underway.
“I was riffing on the idea of a three-camera comedy,” he explained. “Sometimes riffing doesn’t work with the Star Wars community.”
Andor ’s Serious Tone and Impact
Unlike other Star Wars content, Andor takes a serious and grounded tone, focusing on political rebellion before Rogue One and A New Hope.
The first season earned a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and was praised for storytelling and character depth.
Its success proved Star Wars can thrive without Jedi or lightsabers, opening doors for more genre-based stories.
Season Two Launch Date
Andor season two premieres on April 22 on Disney+, bringing the saga closer to the events of Rogue One.
Fans now await how this horror project could reshape the Star Wars universe in thrilling, darker ways.
